Emergency Preparedness week

Emergency Preparedness week

In the month of May we celebrate Emergency Preparedness Week. The theme this year was “Be Ready for Anything”.

Having a home emergency kit, whether it’s a wildfire, hurricane or prolonged power outage, a pre-assembled emergency kit will help in a crisis. Along with items like emergency blankets, duct tape, and bandages, your kit should include cash, print copies of essential information, and medications.

Residents are also encouraged to sign up for hfxALERT, the municipality’s mass notification system. Subscribers receive notifications by phone, email, and/or text message. During emergencies, HRM communicates with residents through public service announcements, web updates, social media (@hfxgov) and hfxALERT. Residents can also contact 311 for more information about emergency operations.
